Hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose is glycol ether of methyl cellulose, wherein hydroxypropyl and methyl are combined with ether bond and cellulose anhydrous glucose ring, for white to off-white cellulose powder or particles, with methyl cellulose similar to cold water solubility and hot water insoluble characteristics.
In organic solvent solubility is better than water soluble, can dissolve in anhydrous and ethanol solution, can also dissolve in chlorinated hydrocarbons and ketones and other organic solvents.
Soluble in water, its aqueous solution has surface activity, after drying to form a film, after heating and cooling, in turn from sol to gel reversible conversion. It can be used alone in cold drinks or combined with other emulsifiers and stabilizers. The maximum dosage in cold drinks is 1%.
usefulness: thickening agent, emulsifier, stabilizer. Used as dispersing agent of synthetic resin and forming agent of coating.
